Cabinet set

Royal Delft has been making high-quality Delft Blue pottery since 1653. In the thirties of the eighteenth century no fewer than ten types were launched in Delft. According to the fashion of that time, cupboards were placed on the overhanging hood of a cabinet. This vase with richly decorated floral patterns has stood the test of time.

A cupboard set (translated ‘kaststel’ in Dutch) is a matched set of vases intended for display on top of, or in, a wooded cupboard, cabinet or bookcase. The English term ‘garniture’(derived from the French) is also used to mean a cupboard set. The meaning of garniture underscores their decorative nature. A set is usually made up of one covered vase and two beaker vases. In Holland these are usually displayed on top of the cupboard.
