Bowl | Ryol | Orbit Of Self

This unique ceramic object by Indonesian artist Ryol is part of Urban Blue – From Bricks to Tiles, a groundbreaking project in which street art and Delft Blue come together. In 2025/2026, six international street artists created exceptional artworks during two Artist in Residence periods, in close collaboration with the craftsmen and designers of Royal Delft.

Indonesian artist Ryol (Banyuwangi, 1993) presents a hand-painted ceramic bowl. The exterior is white and features the text “Royal Delft” and “Ryol Delft.” The interior is dark blue and depicts multiple figures and white stars. When the bowl is rotated, it creates the impression of a stop-motion animation. The work is signed by the artist and is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.

Ryol lives and works in Yogyakarta, where he creates murals, paintings, and sculptures that combine pop culture with surrealism. His dreamlike, otherworldly visual language is strongly influenced by cartoons, anime, and Impressionism. His characteristic figures are often vulnerable, with large, glossy eyes, reflect on loss, nostalgia, and authenticity; their inner world frequently contrasts with the outer world. More about Ryol

Urban Blue

Urban Blue is an innovative art project that blends the rich tradition of Delft Blue with the energy and expressiveness of street art. Through collaboration with Straat Museum Amsterdam, international street artists quite literally move from bricks to tiles, creating a new way to experience heritage and contemporary art.
