Royal Delft proudly introduces the new collectible: the Blue Herring. These Delft Blue herrings, designed to hang on the wall, come in 6 different variants. The design is by the Dutch designer duo Koens and Middelkoop and pays tribute to the Dutch tradition of herring and Delft Blue.
The Blue Herring collection consists of six exclusive designs: Mesdag’s Fleet, Peacock Scales, Dragonfly Flower, Flower Scales, Art Deco, and Flower Bed. Each design tells a story intertwined with the rich history and culture of the Netherlands. For example, the Mesdag’s Fleet design recalls the famous fishing fleet of the Hague artist Hendrik Willem Mesdag, while the floral designs like Flower Bed and Dragonfly Flower connect to the distinctive flora in Royal Delft decorations.
The design team at Royal Delft created these decorations by integrating traditional Delft Blue elements into the sleek design of the herrings. By blending classic Delft Blue with a contemporary interpretation of the herring, the successful collaboration between Royal Delft and the Koens and Middelkoop design duo is emphasized.
“With this collection, we aim to launch a new collector’s item,” said Design Manager Joffrey Walonker. “In 2019, together with Koens and Middelkoop, we introduced Proud Mary, a collectible that has since become an iconic object of Royal Delft. The Blue Herring perfectly illustrates how we can blend our rich history with contemporary design. The Blue Herring is not just a decorative object, but also a piece of Dutch culture to be welcomed into your home.”
The Blue Herring collection is exclusively available through the Royal Delft webshop, as well as at the Flagshipstore and Brandstore of Royal Delft, priced at €39.95 each.
