About Tearbottle Free As A Bird | The Vase Edition
Tearbottle Free as a Bird | The Vase Edition is a stylishly designed large vase, inspired by the shape of and the story behind the original tear bottle from Royal Delft. The vases are handmade and hand-painted by the craftsmen and master painters of Royal Delft. Tearbottle Free as a Bird is 32 centimeters high and has a diameter of 22 centimeters.
Original tear bottle as inspiration
The tear bottle has a rich history. It is said that this bottle owes its name and shape to those distant days when sailors were often away for a very long time and women were left behind weeping bitterly when saying goodbye. When photography and other modern means of communication did not yet exist, people who went on a journey still wanted to take a souvenir from home with them. That is how the tear bottle came to be. The long, narrow neck of the bottle was placed in the corner of the eye, and the tears could be collected. A precious little memento to take along on long journeys.
