Tear bottle

It is said that this bottle owes its name and shape to those distant days when sailors were often away for a very long time and wives were left behind weeping bitterly at their departure. In the days before photography and other modern means of communication, people embarking on journeys still wanted to take a souvenir from home with them. Thus, the tear bottle was born. The long, narrow neck of the bottle was placed against the corner of the eye, allowing the tears to be collected. A precious little memento to take along on long journeys. When someone is moved to tears, this is a way to provide a true token of their sympathy.
