Tile Wild Flower 08Following the introduction of the Wild Flower tile collection numbers 01 through 06, Royal Delft now introduces series 07 through 12.
Wild Flower tile 07 belongs to the Wild Flower Series. A colorful, floral, and unique Polychrome series consisting of six tiles and the Proud Mary Wild Flower. The tile with floral decoration is created using a screen-printing technique, carefully packaged, and shipped from Delft. Easy to combine with one or more tiles from this new (tile) series.
A piece of Delft Blue history
In the 1960s, Royal Delft acquired the Westraven tile factory. A special discovery was recently made in the archives: the sketches and transfer sheets of six beautiful, distinct floral designs from Westraven. The sketches and transfer sheets date back to 1930. They are in good condition and serve as the foundation for the tile collection. Furthermore, they were used as inspiration for the skirt of Proud Mary Wild Flower. The tiles pair beautifully with the newest member of the Proud Mary family.
Wildflowers in modern interiors
Modern interiors are characterized by influences from nature. The inspiration for the Westraven designers in the 1930s was, therefore, drawn directly from nature. Flowers such as the wood tulip, the snake's head fritillary, and the clematis that served as their inspiration are being taken to a new level by Royal Delft's designers nearly 100 years later. The patterns have been developed using the multi-colored polychrome decoration technique, which utilizes yellow, green, blue, and reddish-brown. The knowledge of working with these specific colors originates from the countries around the Mediterranean. These earthy colors form the foundation of contemporary modern interior designs.
The Blueware collection is inspired by traditional Delft Blue decorations and designed by a master painter from Royal Delft. The decorations are applied using a sophisticated screen-printing technique, a method that Royal Delft has been employing since the late 19th century. In this way, centuries-old decorative traditions and historical craftsmanship come together in a collection with a distinctive and timeless appearance.

De Porceleyne Fles in Delft
Centuries-old craftsmanship lives on in De Porceleyne Fles. The screen printing technique, with its origins in eighteenth-century England, is still an essential part of the decorating process. Here, heritage, precision and craft come together in every ceramic object.
Even when the screen printing technique is used, the hand of the Royal Delft master painter is still part of the design. The first design is put on paper with a brush, using the same black paint. Once a final design has been made, it is sent to the printer. The printer scans it digitally and then turns it into a screen print.
This is divided into four separate layers for the four different shades of blue. It is then printed onto plastic films, and the films are exposed onto a screen printing frame. In this way the design transfers from the film to the frame. This is done four times for the different shades of blue, after which a carrier layer is added on top. That carrier holds the entire design together.
The transfer is then applied to the glazed product, after which it fuses with the glaze layer during the second firing.
