Internship 24 to 32 hours per week (minimum 4 months)

Do you want to discover how a museum really works? From conceiving exhibitions to applying for grants, and from conducting research to setting up an exhibition? Then this is your chance.

At Royal Delft, we have been crafting the world-famous Delft Blue since 1653. What started as an age-old craft continues to innovate. In the Royal Delft Museum, we bring together history, art, and contemporary culture. You will find not only beautiful historical objects but also surprising exhibitions. Think of Picasso – Magical Ceramist and Urban Blue – From Bricks to Tiles.

The museum has only existed since 2019 and is in full development. As a result, you will not only get a look behind the scenes, but you can also truly think along and contribute. This is not a "coffee-fetching" internship, but a place where you will learn a lot, be given responsibility, and have your ideas welcomed.

What will you be doing?

During this all-round internship, you will be fully integrated into the museum team. Because our team is small, you will be involved in everything. One day you might be researching a new exhibition, the next day you will assist with a grant application, work on collection management, or brainstorm on a public activity.

Among other things, you will:

  • Contribute to the daily operations of the museum.
  • Conduct research into exhibitions, artists, heritage themes, and developments within the museum world.
  • Help with the development and elaboration of exhibition plans.
  • Assist with the management, preservation, and registration of the museum collection.
  • Support work in the depot and contribute to the careful management of collection objects.
  • Come up with creative ideas for public activities and peripheral programming.
  • Support fundraising and grant applications.
  • Establish contact with funds, artists, partners, and other cultural organizations.
  • Help with the installation and dismantling of exhibitions.
  • Contribute ideas for new projects and opportunities for the museum.

In short: you will get a unique look at almost every aspect of a museum, from collection management and exhibitions to public activities and fundraising.

Who are we looking for?

You really don't need to be able to do everything yet. We find it most important that you are curious and eager to learn.

You:

  • Are pursuing a relevant higher vocational (HBO) or university degree, such as Art History, Cultural Studies, Heritage Studies, or the Reinwardt Academy.
  • Have an interest in art, culture, history, heritage, and museums.
  • Are curious and enjoy finding things out.
  • Write and speak good Dutch.
  • Dare to ask questions and find it easy to approach people.
  • Take initiative and enjoy brainstorming.
  • Work accurately and in an organized manner.
  • Can work independently but also enjoy collaborating.
  • Live near Delft or do not mind traveling.

Extra nice if you…

  • Have an interest in exhibitions and cultural projects.
  • Enjoy coming up with creative ideas.
  • Are curious about everything that happens behind the scenes at a museum.

Internship compensation

  • €320 per month for 32 hours per week.
  • €240 per month for 24 hours per week.

Practical information

Start: by agreement, preferably in Q3 of 2026. Students wishing to start in Q1 of 2027 are also very welcome.

Duration: minimum 4 months.

Hours: 24 to 32 hours per week.

Working at a special location

Royal Delft is located in a beautiful monumental building on the Rotterdamseweg in Delft. Here you will find both the museum and the factory where Delft Blue is still handmade. An inspiring place where history and creativity come together every day.
