On most purchases, you pay 21% VAT (Value Added Tax). This amount is included in the purchase price. When you place an order on this website and have it shipped directly to an address outside the EU, the VAT rate will automatically change to 0% at checkout. Shipments may be subject to import duties and customs clearance fees once they reach your country. These costs are at your own risk and expense.

When you make a purchase in one of our stores, or in our webshop and have the order delivered to a European address, we are required to charge VAT. However, you may still be eligible for a VAT refund if you export your purchases in your travel luggage to a country outside the EU. For this, we work together with vatfree.com.

Create an account at www.vatfree.com, or download the app for iOS or Android, and follow these three easy steps:

  1. If you shop in our physical store: Ask for a tax-free receipt at checkout. Scan the QR code on the tax-free receipt to start your request. If you shop online and have your order delivered within the EU: Enter your non-EU residential address as the billing address. Your delivery address should be a Dutch or other EU address where you are staying. Register your invoice via the vatfree.com app or website.
  2. Before leaving the EU, go to Customs at the airport or border control to have your purchase receipts stamped.
  3. Take a photo of your stamped invoice using the vatfree.com app or upload a photo via the website www.vatfree.com. Your VAT refund request will then be processed.

Vatfree.com handles the VAT refund and will contact you by email or through the app. For more information, please visit www.vatfree.com or call +31 88 828 37 33.

Please note: To qualify for a VAT refund, a minimum purchase amount is required. In the Netherlands, this amount is €50.

In some cases, the webshop does not have certain products that you can buy in the Flagship Store and vice versa.

If you are unable to visit one of our stores in Delft (Flagshipstore, Rotterdamseweg and Brandstore, de Markt), we would like to refer you to one of our other points of sale. You can find our other points of sale here. The range varies per point of sale.

We have different products to ensure that you can best present your product. For example, we have different tile frames for hanging tiles. You can find this here.

Our wall plates have holes on the back and are equipped with a hanging hook. Our tiles come with adhesive instructions and a hook to hang them directly on the wall.

Delft Blue

Ceramics is a collective term for all products made from fired clay. The name is derived from keramos, the Greek word for potters. Ceramics can be divided into earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. The distinction between these types of ceramics is determined by the composition of the raw materials and the firing temperature. All handmade and hand-painted products from Royal Delft fall under Delft Blue pottery. You can find more information about the various types of ceramics on the website www.delftsaardewerk.nl.

Royal Delft, as a producer and museum, does not appraise earthenware.

The value of Delft Blue earthenware depends on various factors, such as its age and market demand. An antique dealer or appraiser is best suited to assist with this, and we gladly refer you to the Federation of Appraisers, Brokers, and Auctioneers in Movable Goods via www.federatie-tmv.nl.

Each hand-painted object from Royal Delft is provided with, among other things, its own logo and a year code on the bottom or back. On this page you will find the logo and year codes that Royal Delft has used over the years.

A year coding in letters has been used since 1879. Using the list of year codes you can determine the year in which your Delft pottery was manufactured. The list of year codes can be found here.

One of the most imitated decors in ceramics is the Delft decor, or the decoration in blue on a white background. Typically Dutch motifs are often used such as mill landscapes, seascapes and motifs derived from Chinese porcelain such as flowers, leaves and tendrils or scenes with Chinese figures. Sufficient information about the origin and makers of Delft pottery dating from the 17th and 18th centuries can be found in the specialist literature. In the vast majority of these works, the trademark description ends at the beginning of the 19th century. Nevertheless, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, numerous ceramic companies at home and abroad started manufacturing ‘Delft’-like earthenware or porcelain, the brands of which are not described. In July 1998, Stephen J. van Hook published the book ‘Discovering Dutch Delftware’. In addition to Royal Delft, you can also find various other producers of Delft pottery. You can also try to trace the origin via this website.
