As an artist, she is constantly trying to evolve. Previously, her work was black and white, full of meticulous details. Now, she surrounds herself with a colorful process, less controlled, less calculated, and in a way, instinctive. As a result, her creative process is strongly shaped by the concept of spontaneity. It results in imaginary figures, textures, sensations, dreams, and fantasies.

This is an intimate and endearing process. She paints because she needs to. Inspired by pastel color palettes, patterns, and symbolism, he has been active as an artist and muralist since the age of thirteen. His style can be described as old-contemporary minimalism; by editing and refining images into minimalist forms while retaining their essence, his works strive to reunite old and new. He does this in part through contrasting yet unified iconography. Keya Tama utilizes the rich visual language of art history and combines recurring themes to discover sharp contrasts and unexpected similarities. This results in unusual, striking, yet strangely familiar works.

Through the use of primarily acrylic paint in his artworks, a strong graphic sensibility is palpable in every piece. Together, they form a unique series that invites you to collect them.

About Tja Ling

Tja Ling Hu (b. 1987) is a visual artist and illustrator. In 2017, she won the prestigious Fiep Westendorp Encouragement Award for a project that depicted her family's journey from China to the Netherlands between the 1930s and 1970s. While it was a search for a better life for her family at the time, for Tja Ling, her Chinese heritage is a search for her own identity.

Tja Ling takes you into the world of her thoughts, which manifests in a surreal, dreamlike, and sometimes somber way. With her characteristic fine lines and soft pencil strokes, she invites you to literally enter her world: only by moving closer can you truly observe the details, making the connection with her work intimate and personal. It shows the connection to her Chinese heritage and upbringing, which she attempts to better understand through her art.

Tja Ling's work has been exhibited in various galleries, museums, and art fairs, such as Art on Paper (Amsterdam) and Museum LAM (Lisse). In addition to her work on paper, she also creates murals, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

More information about Urban Blue can be found at: www.urbanblueexpo.nl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1017/7898/1203/files/1536_46202606_tja-ling_tegel_13x13cm-scaled.jpg?v=1783962310
magazine-urban-blue-meerkleurig
Urban Blue Magazine

Especially for the exhibition Urban Blue – from Bricks to Tiles, we have developed a magazine that takes you into both the world behind the artworks and the world of Delft Blue and street art.

In this magazine, you will discover the creative process of the participating artists: from initial inspiration to the final design.
